Detection of CoVID-19 Symptoms and Monitoring using THz Active Sensing Systems

To accelerate the detection and prevent the spread of COVID-19, a possible contactless approach is to use exploit the benefits of miniaturized and distributed active sensors at Terahertz (THz) frequencies. Coughing and shortness of breath can be detected and monitored from a distance using the ultra-high resolution active sensing sensors, some of which are now commercially available with large bandwidth and in a wide frequency range. The sensors can be produced in high volumes at low cost and they are especially suited for healthcare and machine-human interaction. A series of these sen...

Watch out: Don't catch the bug - Contact tracking for fun and credit

Epidemic models are highly predictive if behavioural assumptions and properties of the disease are known; however, behaviour of individuals is notoriously hard to predict and depends strongly on environmental factors. We propose to design a privacy friendly mobile app that can collect data to enrich epidemic models through a fun game. Moreover, the same privacy enhancing protocols will be helpful to use this app to assist the response to an actual threat.

LEGAFIGHT: Legally Fighting Covid-19

Our project proposes a strategic assessment of the current needs of the Luxembourg society and of the existing legal framework to be respected both at the EU and domestic level (compliance with the GDPR) to fight the spreading of the virus in order to produce a comprehensive and precise understanding of the actual situation. It will also consider the already existing legal measures taken by foreign legislatures. It aims, as a first step, to provide the Luxembourg with a specifically socially and ethically tailored legal regime to fight the spreading of the virus, leading to the drafting of ...

Logistic support for mass testing and exit strategy in the COVID-19 crisis using drones

In the current COVID-19 crisis, logistic support for mass testing as well as for any exit strategy is of utmost importance. Therefore, we propose the application of drones with autonomous in- and outdoor navigation capability as a very helpful support measure. Herein, the focus is on two scenarios: (I) the automatic rapid aerial transport of tests between test centers or hospitals and the laboratories to support the mass testing and (II) the automatic aerial disinfection of larger in- and outdoor spaces as a part of the exit strategy. In both scenarios, application of drones to automate the...

The role of environmental factors

The project aims to correlate the international progression of Covid19 as a function of a number of environmental factors: population density, temperature, absolute humidity, and pollution. Other factors may be added as the project progresses.

Construction within a pandemic region, methods and safety measures

The outbreak of COVID-19 has limited many construction activities globally and due to the importance of such activities in civil life, it is necessary to introduce new methodologies and safety measures to be able to pursue those activities under the present circumstances (the quarantine). This study aims to: - Analyze different construction activities including staff behavior under those activities. - Highlight high-risk zones and activities during fieldwork. - Review the used construction protocols during the COVID-19 outbreak (Construction of the recent healthcare facilities). This a...

CRISIS - Correlates of Resilience In the context of Social Isolation in Seniors

In the current COVID-19 crisis, older adults are at particular risk for severe health outcomes and increased mortality. Whereas it is of prime importance to raise public awareness regarding the special risk of older people, and reduced in-person contact is essential to protect vulnerable groups, we have to take into account what effects these measures have on subjective well-being, mental health and further development of older persons. The present research project will tackle the question of how current measures and their communication to the public are experienced by the target group (60...
