Decontaination using Augmented Reality To Ensure Safety Decontamination and cleaning of areas infected with Covid-19 is a significant problem. In particular, how to ensure that operatives correctly clean all areas. This project will build on work from several H2020 and FNR projects to look at how to decontaminate spaces using augmented reality techniques but with a focus on Covid-19. Using visualisation techniques combined with computer vision and other tracking technologies, users will be able to see where the trainees have cleaned, and areas that they have not cleaned. The primary purp...
An integrative network-based drug repurposing approach for COVID-19
We aim at analyzing the publicly available transcriptomics data generated by exposing human lung epithelial cells to SARS-CoV particles and measuring the differences in the gene expression. We will use a molecular network analysis approach to identify a set of key genes, that represent key regulators in the SARS-CoV gene expression signature. This signature will be filtered to distinguish pathological from protective responses and used to identify drugs that could potentially reverse pathological features of the disease phenotype based on the anti-correlation of known drug-response gene exp...
Effect of the Pandemic on Air and Maritime traffic and the Atmosphere (EPAMA)
We will use existing databases to study the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic onto air and maritime traffic and consequently onto the atmosphere. Through this, the socio-economic and environmental impact of the disease can be better understood. This help to prepare for the future. In addition, it helps to understand what impact traffic has onto the atmosphere.
COVID19 Literature Bio-Curation, Text-mining and Semantic Web Technologies
The world wide scientific response to COVID-19 pandemic is reflected in the ever-growing scientific literature. Enriching our current knowledge base (https://biokb.lcsb.uni.lu) with these publications requires joint efforts at each stage of the chain of process involved in the text-mining pipeline. This pipeline comprises several challenging tasks such as part-of-speech tagging, entity recognition and normalisation, or event extraction, which are essential to discover relevant knowledge in the form of entities, relations and events. Such knowledge is then made available to the public via se...
The role of air pollution in transmission and severity of COVID-19
Based on superficial inspection and anecdotal evidence, there appears to be a close correlation between being a hotspot area for COVID-19 prevalence or severity on one hand and air pollution on the other hand. For instance, the highest COVID-19 prevalence region in Italy (Lombardy) is also one of the most polluted areas of the country. This apparent correlation has led some researchers to hypothesise that air pollution may play a causal role in increasing COVID-19 transmission and severity. While such a link is plausible, as COIV-19 is a respiratory disease and as there are well-established...
Mobile people in times of enforced immobility - Strategies of coping with COVID 19 confinement am...
Covid-19 has changed the mobility reality of (young) people as international borders have been closed. The COVID-19 crisis suddenly introduces words like 'confinement', 'quarantine' and 'self-isolation' does not limit only freedom of movement particularly for those who have not experienced strict border management controls in their life time. The aim of this project is to understand how young mobile people (18-30 years old) experience this period of confinement and how it impacts on their communicational and social behavior. The contrary of enforced immobility and a mobile live are in the m...
Psychosocial and emotional well-being of children during and after the COVID-19 outbreak: a mixed...
Public health authorities across the globe are taking measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic which generates high levels of stress and anxiety. This study will target a vulnerable group, primary and secondary school students in Luxembourg. The repercussions of their prolonged confinement coupled with the challenges of digital home learning are unknown. While some children may experience boredom, anxiety, exhaustion, others may benefit from spending more quality time with their parents. Existing social inequalities are likely to influence both the immediate effects of the confinement on c...
Perceived economic vulnerability and intra-household behaviour adjustment (ADJUST)
The project ADJUST aims at mapping and analysing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and accompanying quarantine measures on social inequalities in Luxembourg. Theoretically, it seeks to advance the international research agenda in response to the pandemic by particularly scrutinising its short- and medium-term effects on social inequalities on the micro level, i.e. on individuals and households. It particularly focuses on strategies developed within the households in order to contain vulnerability, and their societal implications. The overall hypothesis is that pandemic leads to the reorga...
